The Smears Means Years project, led by Healthwatch Bolton in collaboration with Bolton GP Federation, aims to increase cervical cancer screening among women from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
This report outlines the progress made between 2022 and 2023, including the development of drop-in cervical screening clinics, which offer flexible, culturally sensitive, and community-based access to screenings.
The project addresses barriers such as language, stigma, and cultural misconceptions, empowering women to prioritise their health.
Through partnerships with schools, community groups, and local health providers, the project has facilitated critical health screenings and expanded outreach to marginalised communities in Bolton.
