Healthwatch Manchester recently carried out an Enter and View at Carlton Road Care Home in Newton Heath, Manchester.
They visited Averill House Care Home to observe the environment and routine of the venue with a particular focus on how well it supports the dignity of residents. Moreover, they made a plan to speak to members of staff about their experience in the home, focusing specifically on the care and any treatments they provided. This included an opportunity to share their opinions and feedback about the service.
During the visit, they found the care home to be clean and tidy with good lighting all around the building. Each resident had their own room and there was ample space for visitors to use. However, they found parts of the building where the paint had been heavily chipped and scuffed making it look neglected and worn. Therefore, it was recommended that the interior walls of the home are redecorated.
Moreover, after seeing many walking frames left in a public area, they recommend that unnecessary clutter be regularly removed to make as much space as possible in the corridors. They do note that the Turnaround Manager mentioned these were awaiting removal.
They found that the staff team were friendly and welcoming on our arrival at Averill House. Plenty of staff were visible during the visit and all staff were wearing name badges. They noted that there was a good level of signage in the home with numerous whiteboards displaying staff names and roles. However, they recommend that photographs be added to these so both residents and visitors can identify individual along with their role.
Thank you to the staff and service users as Averill House Care Home for their feedback and cooperation during the visit.
